PARIS LE MARAIS HOTELS
There are thousands of hotels in Paris and close to one hundred just in le Marais district. Beware of hotels that include the word Marais in their brand name and are located outside le Marais! Many hotels on the Internet use keys words such as Marais to be selected and mislead their potential clients. We have discover some, even more dishonest, using our own brand name “parismarais”! Be careful, don’t book anywhere before checking postal codes and addresses! Le Marais is only district 3 and 4 of Paris. You can be sure of a great location when the postal address is ending with these 2 postal codes: 75003 and 75004. Avoid any hotel that pretends to be in le Marais and is situated in 75010 or 75002. Knowing the truth is the first step to choosing a good location, the location you want.
Second step is not to rely too much on star ratings. French classification for hotels is very strict, maybe the most in the world. BUT, it does not include charm and style! You can easily find badly designed 3 star hotel that are indeed 3 stars because they have a certain amount of space, a separate private bathroom and a certain level of services… So, in the 3 star classification, you can have the better or the worse. Trust our selection, you can’t find better !
We select only the most exclusive charming and welcoming boutique hotels for you, where you’ll find great service, a friendly welcome and beautiful antique décor. They are all located in the middle of the city center. In the hotel business we call them 3 star + or 3 star Luxe, even if these categories are not official categories.
Following the strict French classification for hotels, having 4 stars is related to size of the room, having a separated toilet and separated bathroom and generally a room of over 200 square feet (most 3 stars are just 150 square feet and sometimes less). Many business hotels outside the center can pretend to have 4 stars and do match this classification.
Due to the small size of buildings in Paris’ historic center, there are very few 4 star hotels because the rooms are just too small to get the standard classification. BUT, some upscale 3 star places easily match the international classification for 4 stars. We chose to list such establishments in the 4 star category. They are exceptional for their décor, their service and their ambiance. When entering any of them you may notice just 3 stars on the front door, rest assured they would deserve 4 if they met the strict state controls on room sizes. Again, please mention paris marais web site when you book with them!
There are no 5 stars in le Marais yet . The 5 stars categories label creates many obligations for the hotels such as very large rooms and a 24 hour restaurant service. Things that are not possible in small historic houses. Just a few hotels in Paris deserve to enter this category. Most of them are located near Champs Elysées or Tuileries Gardens, but a few are located in Central Paris and you must not miss them. Some four stars hotels such as Le Pavillon de La Reine could easily reach the 5 stars standards. Generally, English, Italian and German 5 stars are equivalent to French 4 stars. They are top of the range, have great service, space and atmosphere all in their own style.
